The intermediate overhaul was quite extensive in the end and included casting, machining and fitting new cylinder liners, a corresponding set of new pistons, overhauled piston rods, new valve spindles, new valve assemblies, all valve and piston rings replaced, complete replacement of all 176 small boiler tubes as well as completion of numerous smaller jobs.

A few problems of leaking tubes cropped up which delayed the return to traffic, but she finally re-entered service 20th May, just in time for centenary celebrations.
