Work on 2857 Continues
We had another set of working days over the course of last week, to continue with work to remove 2857’s tubes. As stated previously this will allow us the opportunity to have a boiler inspector give a more accurate report of the boiler condition.
Over half of the tubes are now collapsed and ready for knocking out, with the first flue tube being removed. We have only removed the one so far, which will go for use at Bewdley MPD as a new chimney for the brazier. Nothing like a spot of recycling!
Thanks to some close co-operation with the SVR, and the staff at Kidderminster Carriage Works, we are hopeful to have at least 3 working weeks during the closed season (January/early February). During these the remaining tubes will be collapsed, then all of them removed, and following on from that one or two other jobs undertaken to allow the boiler inspector to visit.
Following on from that we are now looking to arrange our next meeting with the SVR to continue to build up a program of work that our volunteers can undertake, and to build further on the aspired date for a full overhaul to commence.
