Description
The former LNER East Coast Main Line through Retford c.1957. A big Gresley 2-8-0, No.63952 has the right of way as it rattles through the station on the centre road with an up, 1000 ton coal train destined for the capital. Meanwhile, a K1 2-6-0 stands on the up platform road in charge of a local passenger train bound for Lincoln. These venerable veteran long-boilered ’02’s’ were first introduced by the GNR in 1913 some lasting up to 50 years in traffic. The K1 Moguls appeared in 1949.
